The Square, New Casa

A popular Mexican 🇲🇽 pop-up restaurant in Winchester has found itself a permanent new home. Mi Cocina, who’s takeaway service became huge hit locally during lockdown, will open Thursday - Saturday evenings at The Square form 10th June.

Mi Cocina will be serving authentic Mexican small plate dishes alongside a selection of handpicked cocktails that originated from Mexico.

Roberto and Varenka are childhood sweethearts 👩‍❤️‍👨 who went to School together (or met each other, whichever it was) in Mexico, but were then separated for years as Varenka moved to the UK in 2004 🥺. They met again in Mexico after many years and Roberto decided to follow her to England to ask for her hand and bring her back to live in Mexico.  Their plans were cancelled as the Covid pandemic lockdown took over the World and Roberto stayed in England.

They moved to Winchester and, after noticing a scarcity of take-away food, they decided to work together and gave birth to Mi Cocina. Evolving over the first few months, it became a small loving community of regular customers. On their post lockdown return, they are bringing you new and more intense flavours for you to enjoy! 🎉

Joe Fellows, Director of The Square said: We are delighted to be collaborating with Mi Cocina and serving their delicious, authentic Mexican food at The Square. It is a really exciting time for our business and our customers following a very difficult year for the hospitality industry. We’d like to thank Winchester City Council for granting us a new licence which has enabled us to give Mi Cocina a new permanent home at The Square.

“We are super excited that we found a new home in The Square and also very grateful with Winchester community for supporting us through this journey, we feel very confident and full of gratitude to The Square for allowing us to keep our dream alive”.
